Steve 'Pele' Paterson and Duncan Shearer are Aberdeen's new management team.
Paterson told the official AFC website that he was delighted to have landed his 'dream job' “To me Aberdeen is Scotland's third largest club and to have the chance to manage them is a huge opportunity for me. It wasn't easy deciding to leave Caley Thistle after seven wonderful years, but I'm ambitious and want to show I can be a success at the top level.”
Duncan Shearer is delighted to return to Pittodrie saying it was a chance he could just not turn down “I had a great time here as a player and know just what a big club this is. I hope I can now pass some of my experience on to the lads at Pittodrie and see success return to the club.”
Chief Executive Keith Wyness believes the appointment of the pair could herald an exciting new era of football “Steve and Duncan both like attacking football and they will bring a very positive attitude to this job. Goals have always been a feature of Caley Thistle games and I'm sure they'll be looking to play in a similar style here. I'm really looking forward to seeing them work with the young Scottish talent they'll have at their disposal and can see a great future for us as we move forward. I would like to thank Inverness Caley Thistle for their co-operation throughout the negotiation process and wish them every success for the future.”
Wyness also confirmed that Gardner Speirs and Drew Jarvie will be leaving the club “Gardner and Drew have both been great servants to Aberdeen Football Club and we thank them for the excellent service given by them during their time at Pittodrie. They have been instrumental in guiding many young players to the top here and their efforts are greatly appreciated.”
Chairman Stewart Milne commented on the new management team “We are delighted to have appointed one of Scotland's brightest young managerial talents. Steve is a very determined character and has a great record of success from his early management days in the Highland League through to his time with Caley Thistle. Duncan is well known to all Dons fans for his exploits here as a player, we are very pleased to see him back at Pittodrie.”
