ABERDEEN'S midfield has received a boost today, with the news that two players are set to return from injury.
Gary McDonald and Peter Pawlett have returned to full training — and both could be in line to start in Aberdeen's live Monday night game with Falkirk.
The Dons have been short in the centre of the park since the start of the season, with new boss Mark McGhee forced to blood an untried youngster in the last two SPL games.
While Fraser Fyvie exploded onto the scene with a fantastic performance in the 3-0 win away to Hamilton, his low-key and frustrated-looking display against Motherwell the following week showed that the responsibility of bossing the engine room should wait until he has matured a bit.
And the return of McDonald and Pawlett should take the pressure of expectation off Scotland Under-17 captain Fyvie, and it is good for the Dons to have an exciting young back-up player who has yet to taste defeat in his two starts for the club.
Pawlett himself is a fresh face in the Dons team, and his performances at the tail-end of last season showed glimpses of the class required to balance the graft of Mark Kerr in the centre of the pitch.
And with competition for midfield berths fierce, it can only be good for the rest of the season.
