Dunfermline goalkeeper Jamie Langfield was again linked with the Dons yesterday, and promptly got himself sent off in the reserve match between Aberdeen and Dunfermline at Links Park last night. This is unlikely to have impressed the Dons officials attending, and may send Jimmy Calderwood back to the drawing board with regards to bringing a new 'keeper to the club.
25-year-old Langfield was signed by Jimmy for Dunfermline on a one-year deal last summer after being released by Partick Thistle, and therefore is out of contract at the end of the season. Dunfermline are keen to retain Langfield despite the lad spending his first season at the club as back-up to ex-Don Derek Stillie.
Jimmy told the Evening Express yesterday: "We know that there are a few other clubs interested. He is a quality goalkeeper and, hopefully, we can get him in. But we need to know one way or another soon. I can't afford to let things drag on as we really need to know what Jamie wants to do"
Langfield was sent off in the Dons' 1-0 reserve win against Dunfermline last night for foul and abusive language with half an hour to go. Steven Craig scored with a simple chance right at the death of a scrappy game that saw few chances and Icelandic striker Thor Kristjansson carried off with twenty minutes remaining, presumably after tripping over a daisy.
