After Aberdeen's bleak run over midwinter, Saturday's win, our biggest of the season, caps a four-game winning run that takes the Dons back to third in the league for the first time since early December. It also virtually guarantees a top six place for the Dons, which it must be remembered is the first goal after finishing last season one place above relegation.
Jimmy Calderwood told RedWeb: "Although we were not winning games for a while I felt that the performances were not that bad and [the Hibs game] shows what the lads can do. Our more experienced players played a big part in lifting everyone for this big game and they led by example. I think we are definite now for top six and of course we are all now getting a bit greedy and want more which is what we will try to achieve."
The hunger to achieve more will be given a boost early this week, as Jimmy brings more players into the club despite the transfer window having closed two months ago. Irish midfielder Gary Dempsey, who terminated his contract with Dunfermline by mutual consent last month, will sign on as an amateur until the end of the season, and big Czech striker Lubomir Blaha can sign professional forms as his contract with Slovan Liberec was cancelled before the end of the January transfer window.
This shows commendable business sense and clever use of the transfer rules by Aberdeen, and sends a clear message to the rest of Scotland that even after a big win against the much-hyped Hibs, we want more!
