Teenage midfield trialist Jamie Winter today finalised his move to the Dons when he signed and two-and-a-half year contract. The Scotland youth team captain and former Leeds United reserve team skipper will apparently go straight into the squad for Sunday's SPL clash with Celtic at Pittodrie in what could be a baptism of fire (I always wanted to write that!) for the kid.
Jimmy Calderwood said today: "He's only 19 but he's a good passer of the ball and has good vision for his age. He's got to get up to the pass of our game, as I've said many times Scotland is a very difficult place to play and it is quicker than England, even if they don't think so down there. He's trained with us for 4 or 5 days and was a wee bit tired today. I will see how he goes for the rest of the week but all being well he might be in the squad for Sunday."
The fact that Winter has been offered such a lengthy contract clearly demonstrates the confidence that Jimmy has in the lad's ability to become a top class player. It is this that has turned Winter's signing from a mundane, Prunty-esque panic buy into something the fans can genuinely get excited about.
