Scott Morrison's first goal for Aberdeen was enough to give his side all three points in an untidy match at Easter Road.
Morrison’s left foot shot after just four minutes settled the issue and for all Hibs’ efforts in the second half they could not salvage the game.
Hibs were given an early warning when Steve Tosh was given too much time at the edge of the area, but his 20-yard shot was well saved by Daniel Andersson.
But the Swedish goalkeeper was picking the ball out of his net after four minutes. Tosh touched a short free-kick to Morrison whose 30-yard shot flew past Andersson.
A mistake by David Preece at the other end, when he let a Garry O'Connor cross slip through his grasp, almost brought an equaliser but Kevin Thomson's final shot was blocked by an Aberdeen defender.
Tom McManus had another chance after Colin Murdock headed on a Thomson free-kick, but he could get no power in his shot and Preece gathered comfortably.
Aberdeen should have made it 2-0 midway through the first half when Scott Booth was picked out six yards from goal by a Leigh Hinds' cross but he lopped his header over the top.
Chances were few and far between, but Gary Caldwell was just inches away from connecting with a header after O'Connor had flicked on another Thomson free-kick.
Booth had the ball in the net for Aberdeen on the stroke of half-time but he was clearly offside and the effort was chalked off.
Hibs took the game to Aberdeen in the second half but rarely troubled Preece.
O'Connor connected with a Thomson free-kick but the goalkeeper saved easily.
It was Aberdeen who looked more likely to add to their lead and Andersson was at full stretch to keep out a Markus Heikkinen effort.
