But after the break Aberdeen got their reward when Hearts skipper Steven Pressley turned Scott Severin's cross into his own net before the Dons got a touch of good fortune to grab all three points with only two minutes left.
Substitute Ferne Snoyl produced a great burst down the right and his cut-back fell to Chris Clark on the edge of the box. Clark's effort was on target but took a wicked deflection off Paul Hartley to leave Gordon helpless.
