Dons Beat Rangers Again
An excellent long-range Jamie Winter strike had the Dons 1-0 up seven min utes before the half-time break. They then extended their lead with a well taken from Steve Lovell in the 52nd minute, when he steered a Nicholson effort past the keeper.
Lovell added his second and Aberdeen's third with the goal of the night that sealed his Man of the Match performance. He combined power, acceleration and an excellent finish to wrap up the win for the Dons in the 71st minute.
Jimmy Calderwood told RedWeb: "It was a great strike for Jamie Winter, and then it was just a matter of keeping control of the game. We missed a lot of other chances in the first half but all credit to [Berwick]. They are a nice passing team. We got a break with the second goal. It was a great ball from Barry Nicholson and very hard to defend against. It's a great ball for a striker and a horrendous one for the defender to deal with."
Jimmy was clearly impressed with the contribution from Steve Lovell last night. He added:"The third one was a quality goal. People can now see the quality Steve has. I keep saying, once we get everyone fit it's going to get better and better. The quality of the goal against Rangers and the quality of goal tonight speaks for itself. It was a very calm finish and he is very talented. He's only going to get better and better as the players start to get to know each other a lot better.
"I thought we could have went on to score four or five, but the important thing is we are through."
Aberdeen: Langfield, Diamond, Severin, Byrne, Nicholson, Winter, Clark, McNaughton, Dempsey (Muirhead 62), Lovell (Craig 82), Smith (Stewart 78).
Attendance: 4,398
