Aberdeen comfortably swept aside basement club Dunfermline to move within one point of second-placed Rangers in the SPL table.
In challenging conditions due to the high winds and sleet, the home side adapted better and always held the upper hand.
Aberdeen opened the scoring after 33 minutes when Scott Severin sent Darren Mackie down the right. His cut-back found Chris Clark whose first-time shot was brilliantly parried by Dorus de Vries but only into the path of Mackie who gleefully slammed the ball home from the angle for his ninth goal of the season.
As the half-time whistle approached, Clark missed and excellent chance to extend the home side's lead. Latching onto a clever Barry Nicholson through ball, he clipped the ball over the advancing de Vries.
The Dons extended their lead after 58 minutes as Stephen Simmons needlessly handled inside the area. From the resultant penalty kick, Nicholson coolly slotted the ball into the right-hand corner sending de Vries the wrong way.
The visitors were desperately unlucky not to pull a goal back on 68 minutes when Jim Hamilton's first-time shot was brilliantly saved by Jamie Langfield.
Aberdeen secured all three points after 83 minutes with a swift counter-attack. Nicholson released Michael Hart on the right and the defender found Steve Lovell who swept home from six yards.
