Aberdeen earned their boss Steve Paterson a morale-boosting victory over Hibernian as the home strikers finally found some goalscoring form.
The first chance of the match came in eight minutes when Garry O'Connor outstripped Scott Morrison down the right before whipping in a dangerous ball across the area which found no takers.
In Aberdeen's best moment this far, Chris Clark drove beyond the heads in defence and sent in a swerving cross which Scott Booth failed to keep on target.
Aberdeen's persistence paid off on 26 minutes when Steve Tosh, Booth and Richard Foster carved open the Hibs defence with the youngster sending Leigh Hinds in on goal, the striker took a touch before placing the ball beyond Daniel Andersson for his first league goal of the season.
As the home side grew in confidence, Tosh waltzed past several Hibs players, but his shot was blocked by Colin Murdock at the expense of a corner.
On 39 minutes Zander Diamond picked out Hinds whose flick was volleyed just over by Booth from 20 yards.
Back came Hibs at the other end, Kevin Thomson just failing to keep his header on target from an O'Connor cross ball.
A slip by Kevin Rutkiewicz almost let Derek Riordan in, the big defender's blushers were saved as David Preece charged off his line to block the Hibs striker's effort.
An excellent ball out of defence by Russell Anderson early in the second half picked out Hinds who drove inside Gary Smith before shooting just wide from 18 yards.
Young Foster was the home side's saviour in 56 minutes when he cleared Riordan's goalbound header off the line. He then sprinted the full length of the field to get on to the end of a Clark cross, but his shot flew harmlessly over.
Hibs were back on level terms on 57 minutes when O'Connor beat both Anderson and Diamond to an Alen Orman cross ball, the ball then fell into the path of Stephen Dobbie who coolly headed home from eight yards.
The home side ought to have taken the lead again on 75 minutes when Booth found space wide on the right, his cross was missed by Murdock, leaving Tosh with a clear sight of goal. However the midfielder's fierce drive flew wide of target.
Back came Hibs with Thomson getting ahead of Rutkiewicz to meet a Tom McManus cross, again the effort was just off target.
The Dons got the break they haven't had all season when Murdock completely mistimed a Morrison clearance into the path of Booth, the striker moved in on goal before slotting the ball home from the edge of the area.
With Hibs pushing forward looking to find a way through the Dons defence, the home side broke away with Booth picking out Scott Muirhead racing into visitors box only to be unceremoniously brought crashing down by Grant Brebner for a penalty.
Booth calmly slotting home the resultant penalty kick.
