Aberdeen finally secured their place in the top six following a win over Hibernian.
But they were made to hang on after the interval with Jamie Langfield pulling off two instinctive saves late in the match,
After three minutes Aberdeen's Ferne Snoyl turned away from Jay Shields before smashing in a great shot which was deflected over his own cross bar by Chris Hogg.
A driving run by Steve Lovell after 11 minutes put pressure on the Hibs rearguard he was finally crowded out.
Aberdeen were fortunate when a fierce 30-yard shot from Hibs danger-man Derek Riordan flew the wrong side of the upright.
Aberdeen got the all-important goal after 21 minutes. Hibs' defence failed to clear a Snoyl corner, the ball falling to Scott Severin whose sweet volley from 14 yards flew into the net giving Zbigniew Malkowski no chance.
The Reds almost snatched a second after 23 minutes when a strong challenge in midfield by Gary Dempsey won the ball from Kevin Thomson. He slid the ball to Stevie Crawford, but the veteran striker's effort was charged down by Malkowski.
The visitors were desperately unlucky not to find themselves on level terms after 33 minutes when Riodan's free-kick beat the defensive wal,l but Langfield finger-tipped the ball on to the post before gathering the re-bound.
A tremendous run by Snoyl saw him carrying the ball 60 yards before pulling it ll back into the path of Steve Lovell, but his shot was weak and easily held by the Hibernian keeper.
A tremendous shot on the volley by Lovell from a Snoyl cross in the 48th minute brought a fantastic save from Malkowski.
Hibs came forward and a snap-shot in the 60th minute was saved by Langfield.
Aberdeen had another scare in the 73rd minute when their defence waited for Langfield to come and collect a high cross, but Steven Fletcher nipped in only to see his effort blocked.
Aberdeen thought they had made the game safe in the 86th minute. Kevin McNaughton picked out Lovell and the big striker's shot beat Malkowski but was cleared off the line by Gary Caldwell back into the arms of his keeper.
