Aberdeen and Inverness forced out a scrappy 0-0 draw at Pittodrie this afternoon. During the second period Aberdeen were very much on top but found visitors' goalkeeper Mark Brown in brilliant form as he produced two outstanding saves after the interval to keep his side on level terms.
Aberdeen had started in determined fashion, looking too get back to winning ways having failed to pick up three points since their 2-1 win on the road at Falkirk at the end of November.
In stark contrast, the visitors came on a good run of form which has seen them move into the top six.
Inverness had threatened after 10 minutes with debutant Rory McAllister very much involved. It resulted in Craig Brewster's first-time shot from eight yards going just wide.
Minutes later and with the visitors in the ascendancy, Barry Wilson picked up a loose ball before firing in a fierce 25-yard effort which flew narrowly over.
Aberdeen hit back in the 34th minute when a long ball out of defence from Gary Dempsey was nodded on by Steve Lovell into the path of John Stewart, whose effort from 14 yards was well off target.
With Aberdeen very much in control in the second half, a brilliant run by Chris Clark saw him drive past three defenders before firing in a great shot which Mark Brown did well to parry at the expense of a corner. Richie Byrne's flick header went to Dempsey, whose shot was deflected just over by the boot of Ross Tokely.
At the other end Brewster created time and space to fire in a dipping 25-yard left-foot shot which flew narrowly wide.
Another excellent save from Brown after 68 minutes foiled Stewart.
Aberdeen probably wasted the best chance of the match when Stewart threaded the ball through to Barry Nicholson, who made a deep run from midfield, but after carrying the ball into the visitors' area he somehow screwed a left-foot shot wide of the post.
Despite having all the play, Aberdeen had a lucky escape seven minutes from time when Brewster put Dennis Wyness clear on goal, but his effort from an acute angle cannoned off the post and away to safety.
