In an entertaining match Hibs came out on top in this end to end encounter. They probably deserved the spoils and they created the better opportunity over the 90 minutes.
Tony Mowbray has a nice blend of youth and experience with Steven Fletcher, Derek Riordan and Stephen Glass excelling for the visitors.
Aberdeen Boss Jimmy Calderwood will point to the fact without any of his main strikers and his side passed up some good chances. The truth was that they lacked a physical presence in front of goal.
Youngster Ricky Foster was the first to show for the home side, the 11 minutes when he skipped passed Steven Whittaker before driving in a dangerous cross which Ian Murray just cleared ahead of John Stewart.
Ex-Don Glass was prominent for the away side, twice in a matter of minutes he delivered excellent left-wing crosses which deserved a striker to finish.
In 30 minutes Hibs had a major let-off when Derek Adams deep cross from the right found the head of Russell Anderson.
His cushioned header found Darren Mackie with the goal at his mercy, somehow the Dons striker failed to get a decent shot on goal and his effort was easily held by Simon Brown.
Back came Hibs at the other end when a David Murphy cross broke through a ruck of players to Dean Shiels, however, the youngster's header flew harmlessly over from eight yards.
Hibs again came close in 41 minutes when David Preece came to the edge of his area but failed to get distance on his clearance, the ever-alert Glass lobbed the ball back into the goalmouth but it was just off target.
As the half drew to a close Kevin McNaughton and Richard Foster again combined on the left but as he ran in on goal, Foster lost control of the ball and the chance was gone.
McNaughton was allowed to advance past two Hibs players early in the second half before finding Foster wide on the left.
His deep cross found Steven Tosh who turned inside Murphy but his fierce shot was well held by Brown.
Aberdeen were very fortunate not to go behind when Garry O'Connor beat Anderson to a Glass free-kick which preece did brilliantly to parry.
The keeper then reacted quickest to punch the ball against Riordan, the ball going over the top for a goal-kick.
The opening goal was only delayed by another minute when Hibs took a deserved lead. A long ball out of defence from Gary Caldwell found Riordan, whose first touch took him beyond Phil McGuire before he unleashed a tremendous right-foot shot which beat Preece all ends up.
Riordan again came close when O'Connor found him at the fat post, this time, Preece stood tall to clasp the ball into his midriff.
Aberdeen looked to have clawed themselves back into the game when a McNaugton cross was dummied by Adams to Fernando Pasquinelli, he neatly side-stepped Caldwell before his shot beat Brown.
But Hibs skipper Murray was on hand to clear the ball off the line.
Hibs should have secured out the points in 87 minutes, when Stephen Dobbie was put clear by Shiels. Aberdeen were again thankful to keeper Preece who parried the sub's effort.
Aberdeen continued to press and the closest they came was when McGuire picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area in the final minute, his effort from ten yards again beat Brown, this time Caldwell became his side's saviour has he cleared the ball off the line.
