Striker-turned-midfielder Vernon reckons the best way to ensure McGinn doesn’t escape during the transfer window is to lock him in the Pittodrie cellar until February.
McGinn is in the form of his life and his brilliant free-kick against Dundee Utd was his 15th goal this season for Aberdeen.
The Northern Ireland forward loves playing for the Reds and is not looking to move yet - but just in case he is tempted, Vernon has a scheme in mind.
He said: “Yeah, lock him up. It might need something like that!
"He’s on fire and we can’t speak highly enough of him. He’s such a good pro. He trains hard and gets his rewards on the pitch.
“He’s full of confidence," continues Vernon. "I’ve been there when you feel like you’ll score every time you step on to the pitch.
“It becomes a nice habit and long may it continue.”
