The big striker joined the club in 2010, and was one of the few high points of Mark McGhee's tenure as Dons boss.
He scored 15 goals in his first season, and his penalty box poaching led some supporters to make favourable comparisons with Dons legend Duncan Shearer.
Under Craig Brown, Vernon's chances became limited and, despite being an out-and-out striker, was bewilderingly positioned in midfield for much of Brown's tenure.
The affect this had on Vernon's confidence was plain to see when he was repositioned in his rightful centre-forward role, and he never reached the personal highs of his first season at the club.
However he played a huge role in Aberdeen's League Cup triumph, with a hat-trick in the 5-0 win over Falkirk and crucial penalties in the shoot-out wins over East Fife and in the final itself.
That big Scotty slammed in a hat-trick in his second-last game for the Dons - against Dundee Utd at Tannadice, too - is a fitting send-off for The Vernonator.
As our Twitter follwers will know Vernon was a bit of a favourite of mine, and everyone at Aberdeen Mad wishes him all the best in his future career - except if he plays the Dons!
Here's just a few of Scotty Vernon's 43 goals for the Dons...
