Two Jimmys Tied To Aberdeen Till 2008

AFC has confirmed that under-fire manager Jimmy Calderwood has signed a new contract.

Calderwood, assistant Jimmy Nicholl and coach Sandy Clark have signed two-year contract extensions that end the 12-month rolling contracts used to this point in time.

Calderwood started his Pittodrie career well, taking the Dons to fourth place in the league, and was close to repeating the feat last term.

But his tenure has seen some appalling games of football and a severe lack of entertainment from his players.

Calderwood has overseen a 5-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox, tame defeats to Motherwell, Dundee Utd and, shamefully, amateur side Queen's Park in the cup competitions, and some questionable tactical decisions such as playing Aberdeen's best midfielder Scott Severin in defence.

Last month, Aberdeen-Mad's most poular poll ever saw the Aberdeen support divided on whether Calderwood should stay as manager of the club. 50.3% of Aberdeen-Mad visitors thought he should remain as manager with 49.7% believing he should go.

A Pittodrie spokesman said: "We're extremely pleased to have secured the two Jimmys and Sandy for the next two seasons which allows everyone at the Club to be in a position to focus on consolidating the progress that has been made since their arrival in the summer of 2004.

"Continuity and stability are extremely important for any organisation especially a football club and we look forward to continuing the progress made under Jimmy in the last couple of years."

Calderwood told RedWeb: "It's no secret that Jimmy, Sandy and myself are settled here in the North East and that we want to bring success to this marvellous club and its fantastic supporters.

"We were very close to qualifying for Europe in our first season and we made the top six again last year.

"However, the return of European football to Aberdeen is something we all aspire to and is something I certainly believe we are capable of."
