Yule has made a committment to furthering the Don' presence in the community, and sees Sweeney and former Grampian Police inspector Ally Procktor as key to his vision.

Sweeney helped build the Paisley club into one of the best community clubs in the country and now he hopes to turn his skills to Aberdeen.

Sweeney told the Daily Record: "People laugh at me when I say I want us to be the best. We don’t have another SPL club for 80 miles but that doesn’t mean we should take anything for granted. We have to be innovative and determined.

"It’s something George Yule is passionate about. He is an inspiration to me because he is so full of ideas and pushes me to find ways we can improve.

"I was at St Mirren since I was 16 - it was a great grounding and now I am trying to put into practice what we did there in Aberdeen, plus taking it on.

"St Mirren had a reputation for being a community club and that is what George wants to do here.

"He knows the club has a responsibility in the community. It’s not just about putting a ball at kids’ feet because football clubs can have a huge impact on the area.

"We want the city to have an affinity with its club."
