The Norwich full-back joined the Dons on loan for the remainder of the campaign in January. Manager Paul Lambert revealed at the time that Smith wanted to quit the Carrow Road club and return to Scotland after failing to settle in the area.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed his time at Pittodrie so far and said: "I think it would be a good move for any player to come to a club like Aberdeen, with the way things are hopefully going to go next season."
Smith said: "We played Celtic and got beat 4-0 in a semi-final and we got clapped off. That's something I've never experienced before.
"When you've got fans like that - and with the coaching staff we've got here now - everyone is looking forward to next season.
"Even though the results aren't that great, I think next season will be a bit more positive."
Smith has yet to hold talks over his future with Dons boss Craig Brown, adding: "I've not spoken to him.
"I think it was always the case that we were just going to wait until the summer and see what happens with Norwich.
"They've got big games coming up and they're trying to get to the Premier League, which is obviously their main objective just now.
"That's understandable. So we'll just sit down in the summer and see where things stand."
