Hodgson wants the stopper to provde competition for Darlington number 1 Sam Russell, and he told Darlington's website: "I'd have Preecy back tomorrow. "I think he is an excellent character, his training is fantastic and he is more than capable of pushing Sam for his jersey."
28-year-old Preece had two years at Darlington before leaving for Aberdeen in 1999. He suffered a number of bizzarre injuries during his time at Pittodrie, and while he provided ample back-up to the likes of Jim Leighton and Peter Kjaer, Preece has ultimately never been of the quality to merit a long-term future as Aberdeen's first choice.
