Northern Ireland are due to head to South America to take on Uruguay in Montevideo on May 30 then Chile on June 4 in Valparaiso.
If Niall McGinn is selected - and NI are committed to 75% of their regulars travelling - the forward could have just three days break over the summer.
Aberdeen could face a Europa League qualifier on July 3 if they were to finish third in the SPFL Premiership, meaning the squad would report back for pre-season training on June 9 – three days after McGinn would be due back from South America.
McGinn is showing the effects of a gruelling season for the Dons, and his gaffer believes a summer break would be more valuable than the tour.
McInnes said: “Niall enjoys playing for his country but selfishness as his club manager means it would be better for me if he managed to get a proper rest.
“I know I am no different to any other manager who has a player in the Northern Ireland squad.
“It would be a good experience but I think the rest would be more beneficial than travelling all the way to South America.”
