Aberdeen make their long-awaited return to European competition tonight in the first leg of the Europa Diddy League against Daugava Riga.
And McInnes wants the players and fans to share in the buzz that he will get from managing a team in Europe.
He said: “Europe has traditionally been special for the club. Some of the best moments have come in European competition and have given the best memories for the support.
“I just want our boys to experience it and the current fans to experience what their fathers and grandfathers experienced.
“We also want to get back to being strong domestically and went some way to doing that last year. Now we have a challenge to see how we do in Europe.
“I believe we have a team good enough to do well in the competition.
“It has come earlier than maybe we would have liked, but it is what it is.
“Our opponents are 19 games into their campaign and that’s an advantage, but we also have freshness and enthusiasm and a lot going for us.
“We are at home, it is eagerly anticipated because a club like ours should be in Europe and we want to make the most of it.
“For me it is exciting and I’m sure it is the same for the players and the fans.”
