Second-half strikes from Adam Rooney and Kenny McLean secured the Dons' fifth successive victory, which equals the Pittodrie team's record of consecutive league wins.
McInnes said: "I'm very pleased. That's our third away win out of five matches so far this season.
"Although it's similar to last week against Dundee when we dominated the first half, we have got to find a way to get in front much earlier.
"I was surprised to find out that if we won today that would equal a club record but for me the sole motivation was to ensure we go into the international break with 15 out of 15 points.
"Normally to win away from home you need your goalkeeper and centre-forward to be at their best and I thought both Danny Ward and Adam Rooney were excellent.
"I was not surprised at Danny making an brilliant save at 1-0, he did the same at Dundee United too a few weeks ago and so it was great to get another clean sheet today.
With regard to the highly contentious opener, when the ball appeared to have struck Rooney's arm before he fired home, McInnes was adamant that referee Stephen Finnie made the correct call.
He said: "I've yet to see the first goal again but I saw the ball came up and hit Adam on the arm - and if that had happened anywhere on the park there would not be a clamour for a free-kick.
"Of course the goal had a major impact on the match but I felt that due to our dominance we deserved to take the lead."
