Maguire is out of contract at Pittodrie at the end of this month and has been approached by the English second-tier club.
As the 22-year-old forward is currently on international duty with the Scotland squad, he hopes that the move will be completed when he returns from Ireland at the beginning of next week.
Maguire said: "I have spoken with them, but I really don't want to go into too much about it.
"Derby is a massive club, that's one reason why I've thought hard about it."
"Nothing is finalized yet, so it might not happen. Hopefully something will happen when I get home."
