Jose Mourinho dismisses Dons title challenge

The 'Special One' has taken Chelsea 10 points clear at the top of the English Premier League, with the title all but sealed after seeing off closest challengers Manchester Utd and Arsenal in recent weeks.

However, Celtic have yet to play title rivals Aberdeen at Pittodrie, plus take on Inverness and St Johnstone - two teams who have beaten the Glasgow giants in their home city this season - so the title is far from certain.

But Mourinho took a swipe at the SPFL Premiership, telling the Telegraph: "It’s very difficult in the Premier League for a team to be dominant. This is not Germany with Bayern Munich. This is not Switzerland with Basel. This is not Scotland with Celtic."

Bayern have a 15 point gap at the top of the Bundesliga table, Basel are nine points clear in Switzerland, while in Scotland, Celtic hold an eight point lead over Aberdeen, less than the advantage Chelsea have in England.

Mourinho's comments are bound to aggrevate Scottish football fans, who could argue that they display ignorance of the Scottish game as well as his usual arrogance.

Aberdeen have put up a stern challenge this season, performing better against the other 10 Premiership teams than Celtic and keeping a club with five times the Dons' budget honest throughout the season.

Not a single Scottish football watcher would have placed money on Celtic still waiting to be crowned champions in May, and it remains to be seen whether that will actually happen.
