ABERDEEN legend and goalkeeping coach Jim Leighton has left his role at Pittodrie with immediate effect.
The fomer Scotland international and Gothenburg Great returned to Pittodrie twelve years ago from Hibs and retired from playing in 2000, becoming the club's first ever full time goalkeeping coach.
It is not yet known why the decision has been made, or who instigated it. It will remain to be seen whether Aberdeen fill the role or hand goalkeeping responsibilities to another member of the coaching staff.
Leighton can take some credit for the improvement of current goalkeeper Jamie Langfield in recent years, although the quality of keepers at Pittodrie since Leighton himself retired in 2000 has been fairly woeful.
Dons boss Mark McGhee said: "On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank Jim for the massive contribution he has made in his two spells here, both as a player and a coach, and we wish him all the very best for the future."
