In a hard-fought game, Hearts led at the break thanks to a dubious 35th minute penalty scored by Hearts' fourth-choice left-back Jamie McAllister.
The Dons' second string levelled when an Andy Bagshaw cut back was fired on to the post by Gary Dempsey. Budgie was first to react and fired home from point blank range.
