Aberdeen have followed up their interest in signing Danny Griffin that stalled in early April, but only if he can prove his fitness. The 27-year-old midfielder is out of contract at Stockport and is seen as a possible replacement for Markus Heikkinen in the Dons' engine room.

It was thought that Griffin failed a fitness test at Pittodrie in April, which put a possible mid-season switch on hold. Stockport were believed to have been prepared to pay up the remainder of their former captain's contract in order to allow the player to move outwith the transfer window.

Dons' legend and director of football Willie Miller told the Evening Express: "When we looked at him, he wasn't 100% fit. It's up to Danny to get himself in shape before we take things further." The Northern Ireland international has a history of injury problems and Miller added: "He is trying to regain his fitness again and, once he achieves that, we will take another look at him."

Griffin said in April: "Aberdeen have done really well this season and it is something I have to seriously consider. They are a big club and it would be a big chance for me, but we will have to see what happens. This season has been a real disappointment for me at Stockport."
