DONS boss Mark McGhee will be involved in a delicate bit of transfer work in the coming week, as he balances negotiations with experienced midfielders Lee Hendrie and Paul Hartley.
Hartley is set to return to former club Hearts following his release from Bristol City but McGhee wants to intercept the 33-year-old en route to Gorgie.
However McGhee also has his eyes on Lee Hendrie, but must not let the England international think he is Aberdeen's second-choice and potentially scupper any deal to bring the ex-Aston Villa man north.
McGhee said: "We need to add more experience to the squad. Hendrie or Hartley would give us that.
"But whether we sign Hendrie will be influenced by a lot of things including how we get on with Hartley.
"We have been told there is a chance of getting him and we are pursuing it. We will now approach the player and his agent and see what comes of it.
"We do not know at this stage what else has been offered to Hartley."
