The Dons contacted relegated Dundee after the 24-year-old rejected a transfer to Leicester City.
Dons manager Jimmy Calderwood told the Evening Express: "The clubs have agreed on everything, so it is up to Steve now. I have spoken to him and he seems pretty positive about the idea."
"I'm delighted because he is a player we have been tracking for well over a year now. But he has been told I want an answer, one way or the other, by tomorrow."
