Over 13,000 packed Pittodrie to see the new-look Reds put in an excellent performance against Kilmarnock, winning 2-1 and the margin of victory should have been much more.
The crowd - some 3-4000 up on recent seasons' average attendances - generated an excellent atmosphere due in no small part to the club's decision to close half of the giant Richard Donald Stand for non-Celtic games this term.
And boss McInnes hopes the club's fans will continue to turn up in big numbers after the commanding display and attacking football played by his team.
He said: "First and foremost, getting the three points was the most important thing. All week we've been itching to go and agitated to get in amongst it.
"We wanted so badly to get off to a winning start, and I felt there was a push for that from the support, people who work at the club, and the directors.
"We did that, and I thought we did it with a bit of style. We showed enormous passion and energy, and that was transmitted from the crowd as well.
"They were vocal when we needed them to be, and hopefully the 13,000-plus will be there when we play at Pittodrie again."
It was reported last week that Aberdeen had sold approximately 7000 season tickets - and there is still plenty opportunity to save money buy buying one, so head to the Pittodrie ticket office now!
