Aberdeen play Daugava Riga in the Qualifying Diddy Intertoto Round of the competition, and Langfield reckons the team have a tricky tie.
He said: “Latvia is one of these countries where it will be very hard to get a result so we need to get off to a flier on Thursday.
“I hope we can score enough goals to take a good lead to Riga. We need to be up for it - we need to have a right go at them and try to get the kind of result we can build on over there.
“It’s a long time since Aberdeen lost to another Latvian club, Skonto Riga. That was away back in 1994 and we have a completely different club now.
“A lot of people say that perhaps the Aberdeen side of that era underestimated them but that won’t happen this time.
“We know they will be dangerous but we have to believe in our own game. If we are at 100 per cent I’d back us against most teams.”
