Aberdeen supporters will use swipe cards at the Pittodrie turnstiles instead of bulky season ticket books as of next season.

This news came as the club announced that it has become the first sports club in the UK to complete a full partnership arrangement with Microsoft.

The club will use ATP SkiData's access control system, meaning that fans will have different match and season tickets from the start of 2006/07 season.

Gone will be the paper season ticket books replaced by new plastic smart cards managed by ATP SkiData's access control system.

Match tickets will also be different with an electronic bar code on the ticket as well as stand and seat information.

Fans entering Pittodrie will have to show their match or season ticket to an electronic access control reader as they enter the turnstile. The system will then automatically allow them access to appropriate part of the stadium.

Dermot Murphy, Managing Director of ATP SkiData said: "I'm sure the RedArmy will quickly see the benefits and enjoy using the access control system.

"It offer fans a very modern approach to entering a stadium and is leading edge technology that will be in use at Old Trafford from the start of the 2006/07 season.

"Access control solutions speed up the flow of traffic entering a stadium and are being used at all 2006 World Cup venues."

The deal will see AFC use Microsoft Sport and Leisure's accredited partners ATP SkiData, Green 4 Solutions and Synchro Systems to provide access control, customer relationship marketing and ticketing software at Pittodrie Stadium.

Regional Director of Microsoft (Scotland), Raymond O'Hare, said: "Aberdeen will be able to better understand and communicate with its fans, improve its stadium operating systems and control operating costs.

"Aberdeen Football Club has a reputation for being a Club of innovation and in signing this partnership agreement it has once again shown its determination to embrace new technologies in order to ensure that it is able to provide the highest business and customer service performance levels."
