DONS manager Craig Brown called for Chris Maguire to commit his future to Aberdeen after the striker scored twice in a 3-1 win over Hibernian at Easter Road.
After Josh Magennis cancelled out the opener from Hibs forward Derek Riordan, who, like Maguire, is out of contract this summer, the Dons striker netted twice in three second half minutes to take his side above the capital club to a ninth-placed finish in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.
Brown said: "He's established at Aberdeen, he doesn't have anything to prove.
"Craig Levein's already picked him, so he doesn't need to go to England to get picked for Scotland - that's been proved already.
"I encourage him to stay. I would think it's in his best interests."
Maguire has suggested the stumbling block over his decision whether to stay at Pittodrie was the length of the deal on offer.
The Scotland international would prefer a shorter deal to the three-year contract on the table.
However, because Maguire came through the youth ranks, Aberdeen would default on a €400,000 compensation payment and they favour a longer deal.
Brown called for the 22-year-old to sit tight and continue to develop with the Dons, rather than risk being a fringe player elsewhere.
The Dons boss added: "If I were his dad or his agent I'd say 'give it another couple of years at Aberdeen and when you go, you go on a big transfer and you're right into a Premier League team and because they've paid £2million for you, they play you'."
