AFC Slashes St Johnstone Prices

ABERDEEN MD Duncan Fraser has expressed disappointment at the decision to move April's match with St Johnstone to a Sunday lunchtime.

And the Dons director has announced that the club will halve ticket prices for the match, and similarly reward season ticket holders by allowing them to bring a friend for free to one of the home post-split SPL fixtures.

The St Johnstone game has been moved back 24 hours to accommodate live ESPN coverage and will now take place on Sunday 11th April at 12:15pm.

Fraser said: "We fully appreciate and understand the contribution that our broadcast partners bring to the game in Scotland and we are all extremely grateful for this.

"However, at a time when average attendances across the SPL are down it is understandable that fans get frustrated at the amount of time and date changes, and this just adds to the level of discontent.

"Given this latest change the club will run the same 50 per cent discount offer for St Johnstone as we did for the Kilmarnock game in January.

"Furthermore, to thank our season ticket holders we are offering the chance to bring along a friend for free at a post split home SPL game. Once these fixtures have been confirmed we will announce the match this offer applies to.

"I would like to thank all of the Red Army for their continued and unwavering support of Aberdeen Football Club."

The last time AFC halved ticket prices, the gate was only 693 higher than the equivalent fixture the previous season, despite the match coinciding with former boss Jimmy Calderwood's return to Pittodrie as manager of Killie.

This certainly cost the club financially, so this would indeed appear to be an offer that is entirely for the fans' benefit - but whether the stay-away supporters, who frequently blame high ticket prices, actually take advantage of it is another matter.
