McInnes admitted he is interested in the 27-year-old, who is available as a free agent having been released by the American club DC United last month.
Driver trained with Aberdeen’s first-team squad under the watchful eye of McInnes recently and is back again this week in the hope of proving himself worthy of a contract.
“Andy’s someone we’ve invited in to train, he’ll have a look at us and we’ll have a look at him,” McInnes explained. “So, while there’s nothing definite there, the fact we brought him in means it is something we’re interested in.”
Driver is looking for a short-term deal with a Scottish Premiership club and will consider his future again this summer.
Aberdeen's title charge has been dealt a blow by injuries to star performer Johnny Hayes in recent weeks, and Driver could be seen as a short-term solution to covering that position.
