ABERDEEN
AFTER years of watching Scotland and the Rolling Stones at Hampden, Saturday finally brings a chance to see Aberdeen there again (and hopefully the convoy heading south will have their sat-navs on).
Fans my age grew up on a diet of such trips (14 finals in 16 years) and this weekend evokes memories from the past. The build-up until the Red Army headed south, listening to tales from those who had witnessed 100,000-plus at previous finals. At Mount Florida, the anticipation grew as you took your place on the terraces and the pipe bands were in full flow, right up until the teams were led out. Then there was Willie Miller's iconic one-handed lifting of the cup.
This weekend, fans from that era will take their own offspring to Hampden for the first time and tell their own tales. Hopefully a return next month is on the cards and, if Aberdeen emulate the 1982 team by scoring four against Rangers in the last league game and again at Hampden, we will get Satisfaction.
