Having successfully made it through to a fictional UEFA Cup Final in midweek, it was satisfying to keep our chances of getting back into the real thing next season alive by beating United on a glorious Bank Holiday weekend in Aberdonia.
We just shaded an evenly-matched tie in which for once we managed to contain United's physical presence and looked dangerous and creative whenever we had the ball, even though Dangerous Dave Bus made an appearance.
Though it was rather alarming to hear that our managers tactical masterplan amounted to...well having no tactics whatsoever.
As it was we enjoyed serenading the Arabs out the ground to "You're not going to Europe", and now if we beat Motherwell on Saturday...well we could teach Lazarus a thing or two about coming back from the dead.
A few weeks back even the club had written off our chances but now even those who vowed not to return this season may be forced into a major rethink.
Including at least one guy from our Supporters Club whose season ticket was last seen flying toward the Hampden turf against Queen of the South.
So, European qualification AND denying Rangers the title? Carlsberg don't do last days of the season (they make piss poor lager), but if they did...
