Common sense has abandoned our game. If a referee is required to interpret a rule he invariably gets it wrong and the black and white rules are often pointless, serving absolutely no one.
Gary McDonald exposing his torso and patting his stomach, celebrating his goal and the news his wife is pregnant, does not warrant expulsion from the field. The message is clear though, there is no place for joy and excitement in the SPL.
This was reinforced by the ludicrous stewarding at Fir Park which saw dozens of supporters joining McDonald for an early bath. Aberdeen's Red Ultras group's sole aim is to add colour and noise to supporting their team and their only crime appears to be an unwillingness to just sit quietly in their seats.
This authoritarian approach, both on the field and in the stands, is not making the game any more enjoyable and the result will be dwindling attendances.
