The Dons youth team are through to the semi finals of the Scottish Youth Cup after beating Ross County in a ding-dong battle at Pittodrie.

Dons skipper Ashley McInnes scored two goals including the winner in a game that saw five goals and plenty of action. County took the lead in the 16th minute through Gunn but Willy John Kiely equalised for the Reds two minutes later.

The Dons tool the lead in the 25th minute when Chris Maguire's cross from the left was met by McInnes who gave the County keeper no chance from eighteen yards.

The sides went in at half time all square again thanks to a goal from Hooks before the half hour mark.

The winning goal was a stunner. The 71st minute saw a Neil McVitie goal kick picked up in the middle of the park by captain McInnes. There looked to be not much on for the midfielder but his mazy run left a succession of defenders trailing in his wake before he fired a fine shot into the net to complete the scoring.

Neil Cooper's charges will now hope to emulate the team of five years ago that went on to lift the trophy in a dramatic final against Celtic at Hampden.
