Against the Currant Bun of Play

Och well, ho hum...had to happen some time, so that's Tango and Sash's first defeat on the board but who cares?

It is just the Tin Pot Cup, a meaningless diddy competition if ever there was one...well it is now we're no in it anyway!

First half: well nothing much happened really. Mackie's pace spooked Boumsong a few times, Stevie Craig had a few half chances and as for them, well all they summoned up was a turn and shot fae Thompson, (who did little to alter my opinion that the Arabs are the biggest purveyors of overpriced tat since Gerry Ratner's heyday)....but other than that nowt of note.

Once Craig went off, so did what passed for our "cutting edge". Then right on the stroke of half time, big Phil conceded a very soft free kick 25 yards oot and of all bloody people oor auld pal Nando decided to do a very passable version of Zidane (I'll let ye insert your own swear words here).

The Second half ?

Well Seve had a diving header straight at Klos, Pony Muirhead ghosted in at the back post and sent it right across the goalline and Adams skiffed the bar...but to be honest you just knew we wernae gonna pull it back... if Craig had still been on the park then it might have been different, but he wasn't so nae point crying over spilt milk.

And then almost inevitably in the last minute as we faffed about the ball broke to Thompson the Dodgy Mullet and they scored again for a 2-0 that flattered them as, bar the goals, I don't recall a single Rangers effort on our goal.

For us, well this HAS been coming as we've ridden our luck so far and last night those wee breaks we've been getting simply ran out.

We remain lightweight up front and far too many times we put in crosses but there was no one there and on the occasions we did have someone there was no one following up (see Pony's cross/shot/pull back).

But while last night was a downer, I'm far from depressed - we did after all have a patched up side out there, with ONE fit striker available (and we lost him after 45 minutes) so a wee tweak here and there and the return of Whelan and (hell who knows maybes even a confirmed sighting of Prodan...sorry Pasquenelli in a Red Shirt!!!) and we winna be that far away from a side capable of mixing it wi the rest of the dross that make up the SPL.

I've told many a Red in the boozer about "nae gettin carried awa" and "the real test will be when we hit a slump" so hopefully being beaten by a very mediocre Rangers side (keep up the good work Agent Orange!!!) will prevent complacency settin in.

And who knows it might also bring the small element of our support who've been gettin a tad carried away with what has been a decent if unspectacular start back down tae earth a bit and the predictions of 700 million reds at every game will now stop... remember folks, it's points nae punters that win prizes.

As for our erstwhile "not oor rivals" fae Govan? Well obviously things are bad... I mean they've been reduced to wearing old Crystal Palace strips (circa 1980), Zurab seems to have lost a "B" and become "Zura" and after the criticism we got for "celebrating" a 0-0, after last night result you would have thought UEFA had let them back in the Champions League.

Now I reckon we've got one win each against the Gruesome Twosome so part of me is actually quite glad we didnae win, as based on their performance last night we may after 13 years be able to record a victory at Ibrox as there is nothing to fear.

Anyways, Hibs on Saturday and touch wood Craig and maybe Whelan will be fit and we'll pick up another 3 points... after all who gives a monkeys about the Tin Pot Cup anyway!
