DONS target Jerel Ifil hopes to tie up a deal that will take him north to Pittodrie — after getting the go-ahead for the big move from his wife.
The big centre-back featured for Aberdeen at Hull City on Sunday afternoon in a benefit match for Dean Windass, and impressed new Dons boss Mark McGhee.
It is now down to the Dons and Ifil agreeing a contract — but with McGhee being promised cash from the Pittodrie board to get his targets in, this will hopefully prove a formality.
Ifil told the Swindon Advertiser: "It would be a big move, but I've got the blessing of my wife and we would do it together.
"If it all goes well [Aberdeen] want me to go in for Saturday.
"In that league you can play some big teams, and there's a good atmosphere. I'm just weighing up the pros and cons and seeing if it's worth my while.
"I wasn't expecting to go there so it wasn't even in my mind. If it works, it works, and if it doesn't then I will just continue what I'm doing here."
Current longest-serving Swindon player Ifil has slipped down the pecking order at the County Ground, and will not be a regular starter this season.
But Dons legend and Director of Football Willie Miller has promised the board will pull out all the stops to get the player first-team football at Pittodrie.
He said: "Ifil impressed and if Mark wants to sign him we will try to get a deal done before the Celtic game.
"Mark has been working hard to secure new signings and he has the backing of the board every step of the way."
Swindon Town manager Danny Wilson confirmed yesterday that his club had agreed to the move in principle, and it is believed that there would be no fee.
The Mary's Prayer star said: "Aberdeen have made a formal approach for him and it's up to Jerel to see what can be agreed. It's with Aberdeen and the player now and we will see what develops.
"It really depends on how much Aberdeen want him and we have given them the go-ahead to speak to him."
