Return Of The Mac

ABERDEEN midfielder Gary McDonald was back in the Dons engine room on Saturday - after overcoming his nerves.

The midfielder was immediately involved in the first goal against Falkirk, being fouled for the Dons' penalty after a terrific burst into the box.

And Dons gaffer Jimmy Calderwood explained that a bit of stage fright was part of the reason for Gazza Mac's slow start at the Dons.

Calderwood said: "Gary is quite a quiet, unassuming kid and I think at first he was taken aback by the size of the club."

The Dons boss was delighted to see the hard-working midfielder seize the opportunity of a first start in months with a fine all-round performance.

He said: "I thought Gary was fabulous today.

"It was really difficult for him because he has had to sit out for a few weeks since coming here but he has really come on and he is dominating training.

"He is great at timing his runs into the box and getting himself into positions to score. There are goals in him which is great for the lad and great for us."
