DONS winger Jamie Smith will have to prove he is fit again before being offered a new deal by the Dons.
The Copenhagen hero, whose goals took the Dons through the group stage of the UEFA Cup for the first time ever, has been plagued by injuries all season.
And 28-year-old Smith, who is back training after a long spell out, is one of the five Aberdeen players whose contracts run out at the end of the season.
Smith is therefore free to speak to other clubs, and could still move from the Dons before 5pm today.
This is unlikely however, with the player currently sidelined, and Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood says contract talks won't take place until Smith is back in first-team action.
Calderwood said: "We obviously can't do anything about contracts until we know for certain how Jamie is going to be.
"I want Jamie to stay, he knows that, so he will get all the time he needs to prove he is back to full fitness.
"Jamie is straight as a die, he knows that has to be the way things are done.
"It's the only sensible way for both parties to deal with things."
