HIT-AND-MISS striker Darren Mackie is set to receive a testimonial as part of a new deal with the Dons.
The 26-year-old frontman has been at the club since 1998 and could be set to enjoy a bumper pay-day against a top English club.
Lifelong Dons fan Mackie, from Inverurie, has scored 57 goals in 272 appearances for the club in a career spanning 11 years.
And none was more important than the Hewitt-esque diving header in Dnipro that took the Reds to the group stage of last season's UEFA Cup.
Mackie rejected the offer of significantly higher wages from Dundee United three years ago to stay at Pittodrie.
And Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood is delighted with the contribution Mackie has made to the team since then, and believes this should be recognised by club and fans.
He said: "I would think he's due a testimonial which says a lot about the character of the lad, who is Aberdeen through and through.
"He's an absolute gem to work with and is a real team player. It doesn't matter what you ask him to do, he just gets on with the job.
"That's why it annoys me when he gets stick. Sure, he could score more goals but if he was a more prolific striker he would be at a far higher level."
Striking partner Lee Miller is also full of praise for the Dazzler.
Miller recently told AFC's Red Alert newsletter: "He just always pops up with goals, and some very important ones in those ten years.
"[Darren is] deceptively quick, good in the air and has two good feet as well. He can play in any position and wherever he plays he will do a good job. He would play in goals if the manager asked him!
"He is always involved in the pranks and always seems to get the blame even if he is nowhere near the scene!"
