Irish Kid Leaves Dons

ABERDEEN midfielder Sammy Stewart has left the club by mutual consent.

The 19-year-old, who joined Aberdeen in June 2008 for a fee thought to be £15,000 from Irish club Glenavon, managed a single competitive top team appearance for the Dons, coming on as sub in their 2-1 win over Hibs last May.

Aberdeen had beaten off competition from Championship side Watford for the Portadown-born starlet's signature, but his promise was unfulfilled during his spell in the North-East.

A spokesman for the Dons said: "Everyone at AFC wishes Sammy all the very best for the future."

Sammy Stewart joins other famous Stewart-surnamed departees John 'Budgie' Stewart, Hugh 'Budgie' Stewart and Rocksteady 'Budgie' Steward in utterly failing to make an impression at Pittodrie.
