After completing his medical in the morning, Stuart joined up with his new team-mates for training and could be thrown a dream debut in the vital fixture with United at Tannadice today.
Dyed-in-the-fleece Dons fan Duff told of his delight at signing for his hometown club.
He said: "I know there has been bits of interest in the past, which has obviously not worked out but I am just delighted to be here now and am keen to show the manager what I can do."
Stuart has been allocated shirt number 11, Chris Clark's old squad number, after the energetic midfielder completed his £200,000 transfer to Plymouth this week.
Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood confirmed the deal at a press conference yesterday, and said Duff could earn an extended contract if he performs well.
He said: "Stuart passed his medical with flying colours. At this moment in time he will be here till the end of the season, and hopefully longer than that."
"We are very happy to get him. Stuart is a player though I have always admired. He has two good feet, he is quick, he is good in the air and has got an eye for goal when he is playing in a forward position.
"He is very versatile and can play a lot of different positions, which is something we look at with all the players we bring in."
The signing of Duff is a Calderwood speciality, as he has previously brought in Gary Dempsey, Danny Griffin and Neil MacFarlane on similar short-term deals.
While Griffin and MacFarlane failed to earn longer deals, Dempo proved that it can be done with a string of good performances.
Meanwhile Aberdeen Under-19 striker Michael Paton has joined Brechin City on a one month loan deal.
