DONS captain Scott Severin is set to leave the Dons this summer, with Watford the likely destination.
New Hornets boss Malky Mackay wants to make 30-year-old Severin his first signing since taking over at Vicarage Road.
Mackay will seal the deal on his return from Sweden, where he is obtaining his UEFA Pro licence.
He said: "It's at an advanced stage and we're hopeful something will happen with Scott when I return."
Severin, who is available on a free transfer, has made no secret of his desire to leave Aberdeen, calling the SPL "boring" in recent weeks.
The versatile player will be best remembered for his contribution to the Dons' midfield, adding much-needed bite and aggression to the club - especially when we played Hibernian.
It's hard to think of a Hibs game where the former Hearts man didn't blast the ball into the jeering away support at some point during the 90 minutes...
He also played a vital part in Aberdeen's third-place finish in 2006/07, with memorable strikes against Hibs and Rangers standing out among many powerful midfield performances.
Severin was the first signing by Jimmy Calderwood during the last Pittodrie revolution, arriving very soon after the addition of first Willie Miller then the two Jimmys to AFC - so it is perhaps fitting that he leaves just as the next revolution gets underway.
Aberdeen-Mad would like to thank Scott for his contribution to the Red cause in the past five seasons, and wishes him all the best in the future.
The decision means that new Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee will be able to choose a brand new team captain.
This will be good news for the gaffer, who will be able to select a player in his own image to act as his right-hand man on the pitch.
Who should the new club captain be? Discuss this on the Aberdeen-Mad messageboard, and make your choice on the voting poll.
