ABERDEEN have confirmed that winger Jamie Smith will not be offered a new contract this summer due to persistent injuries.
The 28-year-old has been plagued with problems this season and throughout his Pittodrie career.
The former Den Haag forward had until the end of the season to prove himself worthy of a new deal but this looked increasingly unlikely after he started just nine SPL games during the campaign.
And any lingering hopes were finally dashed after he was carried off against Hearts on Tuesday, with anguish etched on his face as he left the field.
Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood will be sorry to see Smith leave, but added that it was hard to put a case forward for keeping a player who has serious injury issues.
He told the Daily Record: "Jamie knows how much I think of him but you need your big players to be fit most of the season to achieve your targets.
"Unfortunately it looks certain he won't play again this season which is a shame.
"It's hard to convince your board to pay money for players who aren't fit to play for the team."
Aberdeen-Mad would like to thank Jamie for his contribution to the Dons recovery from laughing stock to solid Euro-contenders in recent years, and we will never forget the goals against Rangers and Copenhagen in particular.
He was also a model professional on and off the pitch, and we wish him all the best in the future.
