Anderson And Severin Given Scotland Call

Last updated : 09 August 2005 By Stand Free Ed
Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson and midfield dynamo Scott Severin have been called up by Walter Smith for next week's friendly between Scotland and Austria. This is despite Aberdeen's lacklustre start to the season, and the pair have the chance to impress the Scotland management team before the vital double-header against Italy and Norway in September.

However, the squad has been depleted by Smith's decision not to pick players involved in Champions League qualifiers in the two weeks on either side of the friendly, and that means no players from rangers, Everton and the Uniteds of Manchester and Dundee. This suggests that regardless of how well anyone plays against Austria, Smith will stick with his favourites for the forthcoming double-header.
