RDS Mock - Full

Aberdeen Mad regular The Red Pimpernel approached AFC Heritage's Chris Gavin with the idea to make a banner to fill an 80ft-wide gap on the RDS - an idea that was embraced by the club.

Pimp then contacted fellow AbMad regular 2stars83, aka Dolly Digital's Mark Elrick, to design something for this space and create the banner professionally.

The actual content of the banner is shrouded in secrecy, and will be unveiled before the match against Dundee Utd on January 3rd, the Dons first home game of 2013 - 30 years on from the year that Aberdeen won two European trophies; the only Scottish club to do so.

The banner has cost in excess of £1000 - AFC Heritage has paid for half of this sum, but as it is a charitable organisation it is hoped that the ever-generous Red Army can help to cover the shortfall in costs.

And to do this, an event has been organised where you could be brushing shoulders with some of the most important people in Aberdeen FC's history!

The banner's creator Mark told us: "This is a project being led by fans (but facilitated by the club), and as this is a fan project we would like to make this announcement through Aberdeen Mad before anyone else.

"Fans have been very generous recently with cash and time for fan causes - the cup semi-final display, Teddy Scott testimonial, Neil Simpson benefit, and more. But instead of simply asking for donations to help fund this project we hope we have come up with something a little different.

"We'd like everyone associated with the club to sign the banner - from Chairman to cleaner, and Craig Brown to pie-seller. We also hope to get some very important signatures from Aberdeen FC's history. The most important signature on this banner will be yours...

"There will be an open day at Pittodrie on Sunday 11th November in the Richard Donald Stand concourse from 12-2pm, and everyone is invited. Season ticket holders, shareholders, armchair fans. If you are a Dandy, you are invited.

"Come and meet the current playing squad, legends and of course Angus the Bull. We've requested that Si the Seagull remains in his nest..."

Entry to this event will be free but fans that wish to sign the banner will pay a small price for the privilege. All funds raised will be donated to the AFC Heritage charity.

If you wish to make a donation prior to the event, or if you are unable to attend but still wish to contribute, you can donate to AFC Heritage using the button below. Please indicate your donation is for this project by typing 'FLAG' when using Paypal.
